We’re 10 Years Old Today… Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Homebrew Finds started 10 years ago today!

Post #1 from 11/19/10:

Welcome to the Homebrew Finds blog!

It’s my goal to provide you with homebrew and beer related finds and deals found in both likely and unlikely places.

Enjoy!

Since then we’ve published well over 24,000 posts, 161 reviews, many dozens of resource posts and how-tos and hundreds of reader tips.  We have thousands and thousands of email subscribers, 10s of thousands of Twitter and Facebook followers, loads of RSS subscribers and a growing community in our Facebook Discussion Group.

A lot of things have changed (and grown!) but some haven’t.  Other than a few great regular contributors (thank you!) Homebrew Finds is a one person operation.  It comes to you from the home of a homebrewer.  Our offices are my basement, garage and driveway.

I started Homebrew Finds because I found myself wanting to upgrade and brew at a reasonable cost and tried to find deals along the way.  As I found those deals, I thought it would be great to share them.

The Homebrewing Community quickly embraced Homebrew Finds.  I had partner shops come along side me quickly, tips started coming in and people started… reading and interacting.

Thank you for your warm embrace.  Thank you for being an awesome community.  Thank you for being part of a great hobby.  Thank you for 10 years and here’s to many more.

Cheers and… thank you!

Welcome Expert Contributor Brad Probert!

We’re excited to announce that Brad Probert has come on board here at Homebrew Finds!  Besides having a fine beard 🙂 Brad is also an experienced homebrewer and expert reviewer.  Look new reviews from Brad right here on Homebrew Finds!

More about Brad:

I’ve been homebrewing since the beginning of 2006. I’d been a long time beer fanatic for years prior to that, having my eyes opened to the wider world of beer after a honeymoon trip around Ireland and forcing myself to drink Guinness every day. Yes, back then it really was an effort to force myself to drink a beer with that much flavor in it. Shortly after that, we went overseas with my work and spent 3 years in Japan and 2 years in England. That totally opened up my beer palate to crave fresh and different. Although there was more variety in the beer aisle, there was nothing that had that same fresh taste, and definitely nothing like the English Bitters I had grown to love. And that’s what spurred me into trying homebrew- to make something I couldn’t get in the stores.

I started the typical way, with a homebrew kit in a box and some extract kits. In those early years, I loved the creation process and the smells and tastes of my in process brews, but the finished product left a lot to be desired. I grew weary of staring at 48 bottles of mediocre beer that I made, knowing there were 6-packs of new and delicious offerings on the store shelves. I decided before calling it quits, I’d try all-grain. Eureka! That notable extract sweetness that gave my beer that telltale “amateur” flavor was gone. I was re-energized in brewing and back into it with a lot more passion.

I’m an engineer at Ford, working on high-voltage batteries in our next generation of electric cars. I love the work, but it can easily become too over-consuming so I dove into homebrewing with more intensity to grow an outside-of-work hobby to offset the at-work intensity. In addition to brewing, I’ve also been writing for various print and online beer publications, and even organized a few craft beer-centric events.

I find a good match between homebrewing and being an engineer. I love the process of trying to create the exact taste/aroma/experience I dream up in an actual beer. That’s always what drives me on to the next recipe- what to modify in something I made before, or what new thing I want to try. And I enjoy figuring out the science of the process & equipment to give me the most repeatable and predictable results. I get just as much enjoyment out of the brew day as I do the beer sampling day!

Press Release

Press Release, August 21st, 2017

Kegconnection, LLC is excited to announce the acquisition of HomebrewSupply We have genuinely admired the positive impact HomebrewSupply has had within our industry these last few years and understand that their customers expect exceptional products and service, which we intend on building upon. The website, HomebrewSupply, will be restocked and back to filling orders over the next two weeks. Our current timeline includes HomebrewSupply having a soft relaunch as quickly as possible and then a grand re-opening event when all fulfillment is fully back online.

A very large aspect of our many goals for this acquisition is to bring back all of the popular brewing kits and approximately 90% of the items that HomebrewSupply has carried. Alongside this, we will also be greatly enhancing their draft beer equipment section to better offer Homebrew Supply customers a wider variety of equipment and kit options.

We are also excited to announce that Ladik Joe Ermis will be joining our team! As many of you already know, Joe is an avid homebrewer and has been with HomebrewSupply since the company’s grand opening. Joe has also been involved with many aspects of the business and will definitely be staying involved with customer service and maintaining that which HomebrewSupply customers have grown to love.

Kegconnection, LLC (www.kegconnection.com) started in 2006, also in San Marcos, TX, and is now located in Comanche, TX. We have been an industry leader in the draft beer equipment side of the homebrew market and believe that the acquisition of HomebrewSupply will allow us to better serve all of our customers by bringing additional depth and experience to both websites. Both websites share an enthusiasm and exceptional zeal for customer service that we’ll be expanding on even more through additional content, in-depth how to videos, podcasts, and other beneficial and informational content!

Your patience and support is greatly appreciated while we get HombrewSupply fulfillment moved and increase the website’s inventory. Viceland Looking for Homebrewers to appear on Season 2 of Beerland

I received the following from Erin Glass Casting Producer for Viceland’s Beerland.

“I’m currently working on the second season of Beerland, a series that dives into different craft beer communities around the US to feature fascinating homebrewers and the brews they make! We will showcase different homebrewers from all walks of life who are passionate about not only the beer they make but the community they share it with. We’d see the interesting places they enjoy their beer and what goes into making their brew one of a kind! We’re very interested in finding diverse and unique people and fun, visual places and events where they share their beer! We’re looking to do our next episodes in MN, AL, OR, MT, MS, LA, IL, MI, and AK this July/August.”

If you know any homebrewers who might be interested in sharing their story and passion with us, please pass along my info and have them email the following info:

  • Name, Age and Photo City, State
  • Years brewing
  • Who you brew with/Why do you brew/Where you brew
  • Have you made any “specialty” brews
  • Where you DRINK your brew. Any unique locations/events/gatherings etc?
  • Do you have any homebrew events/club involvement in July/Aug
