This controller can control both a heating and cooling device.  Alternatively, it can control a heating or a cooling device.

In my opinion the original ITC-308 was and is a game changer as far as homebrew temp controllers.  In comparison to available controllers available at the time the ITC-308 was released, it offered loads more features, including dual stage control, for a fraction of the price.  Game changer!  The addition of Wi-Fi control and monitoring to this great controller has made a great temp controller even better.  Check out our Hands on Review of the ITC-308.  That includes a section on the WiFi version.

Using a layer of defense to detect against kegerator CO2 leaks…

Placing a CO2 Monitor with alarm inside of your kegerator can serve as another line of defense to protect against co2 leaks and loss. CO2 should not be building up in your kegerator. A CO2 monitor with alarm can alert you of this condition.

This is not a replacement for checking for CO2 leaks using traditional methods, rather a another layer that could save you a trip to swap out a CO2 tank.

Please Read:

1. You may want to adjust the differential of the included Dixell XR03CX controller. The differential is the amount of time the control waits after cooling to the target temperature before restarting the compressor. A higher differential gives you a wider temperature range and less wear on the compressor, while a lower differential makes for a very narrow temperature with more wear on the compressor. This is done by programming the temperature control on the front panel. This commercial grade centigrade control is very versatile and will let you fine tune your refrigerator to your specifications, but not very intuitive. Click here for a manual. Note that the unit has a fahrenheit mode, but we recommend it is not used, and that you keep the unit in centigrade for best performance.

2. This is a commercial grade appliance with a high level of cooling performance. The powerful fans in this unit are louder than the smaller Series X Kegerators

3. These commercial grade fridges have been handcrafted and may have some light cosmetic scratches or dings/dents which is normal

4. This unit is free standing and should not be built in to a countertop to prevent overheating.

5. This unit does not have a plug for the beer tower. You will need to purchase a beer tower to plug the top tower hole. All our Nukatap towers will fit.

  • Fill bottles of beer, directly from your tap/faucet with this innovative counter pressure filler.
  • Improves upon standard counter pressure fillers, as it plugs DIRECTLY into your draft system faucet (tap). Most solutions require you to hook up a separate liquid line, which is not something standard draft systems have setup and requires additional prep (i.e. more time). With the Tapcooler, you can have it setup and ready to go in less than a minute!
  • Connecting your CO2 line is also a snap. You can either hook up directly with a 3/16 in. push-fit line, or connect your line to the included barb fitting.
  • With the Tapcooler design, your beer AND CO2 are filled from the bottom of the bottle through the telescoping bottle connection tube. First CO2 flows down into the bottom of the bottle to flush from the bottom up. Next you open the tap and beer flows down the same tube, filling from the bottom up. The result is a more effective purging of oxygen and little to no foam during the filling process.
  • The filler features a push button CO2 purge valve which allows you to purge the bottle of oxygen before & after filling. It also includes an adjustable pressure relief valve, giving you the ability to change the filling speed. The pressure relief valve also acts as an overflow port for excess beer/foam to escape when filling.

The Nukatap Mini is the first small beer faucet with big faucet features, like forward sealing, an optional self closing spring, laminar flow to minimize foaming, and a removable stainless spout. It also has new innovations like integrated over molded SantopreneÂź seals, which will last the life of the faucet without replacement. The faucet body is molded from POK plastic which can withstand autoclave temperatures, and the over molded seals can withstand the harshest cleaning chemicals. Due to it being made of POK plastic with a POK molded shuttle, the first pour from a Nukatap Mini will have less foam than from a conventional metal faucet due to the fact that cold beer cools down POK plastic faster than it does metal. The POK plastic also insulates better than brass or stainless, a helpful feature between pours.

The Mini debuts a new shank system which eliminates the need to drill a 7/8” hole in your cooler or refrigerator door. The new Nukatap Mini Shanks (available for 8mm and 6.5mm Evabarrier tubing) use EvaBarrier tubing to draw the beer right to the tap, and are secured with three screws to the outside, preventing the shank from rotating, a common problem with metal shanks and coolers.

Some retailers have struggled to keep Nukatap Mini in stock. As of this update nearly all options and accessories are in stock at William’s Brewing

Digital Finger Counters to Estimate Remaining Draft Beer

Finger counters are pretty self explanatory.  They are digital counters that strap to your finger.  Tap the button to add one to the count.

These are small enough to put near or on the tap, color coded for easy identification, re-settable, and will save the last recorded number when it goes into power save.

These may even fit on your tap handle or faucet, depending on it’s size.  5 gallons of beer = around 40 x 16 ounce glasses of beer.  Tweak for your quantity of beer and normal glass size and click every time you serve a pint and you’ll have an estimate of how many beers you have left.

Jeff Says: “As you can see from the picture, they fit well on standard tap handles. The band is made of that sorta “sticky” plastic kiddie watchband type material, so they stay in place and have a bit of stretch. They go to sleep to save the battery life, so you need to press once to wake up, then again to increment. So I press to guesstimate, pour and press again to record the pour. Again, it is just a rough estimate, but pretty effective.”

This is similar in function to the Eva Dry E-500 – Hands on Review.  It contains desiccant beads that absorb moisture (in places like your kegerator).  The desiccant beads change colors as this takes place to let you know when the unit needs to be recharged.  Plugging in the unit activates the built in heater and drives off accumulated moisture. Unlike one time use solutions this is re-chargeable and re-usable.

This controller can control both a heating and cooling device.  Alternatively, it can control a heating or a cooling device.

In my opinion the original ITC-308 was and is a game changer as far as homebrew temp controllers.  In comparison to available controllers available at the time the ITC-308 was released, it offered loads more features, including dual stage control, for a fraction of the price.  Game changer!  The addition of Wi-Fi control and monitoring to this great controller has made a great temp controller even better.  Check out our Hands on Review of the ITC-308.  That includes a section on the WiFi version.

Using a layer of defense to detect against kegerator CO2 leaks…

Placing a CO2 Monitor with alarm inside of your kegerator can serve as another line of defense to protect against co2 leaks and loss. CO2 should not be building up in your kegerator. A CO2 monitor with alarm can alert you of this condition.

This is not a replacement for checking for CO2 leaks using traditional methods, rather a another layer that could save you a trip to swap out a CO2 tank.

Three Top Tips for Keezer Conversions! + Limited Time Deal on Chest Freezers at Wal-Mart

keezer conversion tipsChest freezers are great. They’re generally well priced and they’re space and energy efficient and can be easily had.

The primary idea with a chest freezer is to… freeze food. Also referred to as Deep Freezes, most models do not go through a defrost cycle. That’s a bummer come manual defrost time but outstanding for energy savings and food preservation.

You could use this to put together a freezer based kegerator/keezer (See: Tips and Gear for your Kegerator) or temperature controlled fermentation chamber.

Side note… Because of the lack of a defrost cycle, chest freezers are great for storing hops – our hop deals roundup

Many people including myself have repurposed chest freezers as kegerators or “keezers”.

What does Keezer mean?  Keezer = kegerator + freezer.

To do the conversion you basically add a compatible temp controller – Inkbird deals and reviews – that will allow you to operate a chest freezer at fridge temps.  After that add some taps, maybe a collar, some kegs and a CO2 tank and you’re off and going!

The problem: Chest freezers are generally meant to operate at freezing temperatures, not beer serving temps. This causes issues with condensation and airflow. Left unhandled these issues can cause other problems, like sanitation issues.

Through several iterations of my own keezer, I’ve experienced all of these problems. I have a library of tips and resources that specifically apply to serving draft beer, but these are the top three when it comes to keezer conversions.

Dual stage temperature controller with 1,920 watt rating. I would say that 1,920 watt is a higher capacity than many of the homebrew controllers out there. The other higher capacity controller that I’m aware of is Inkbird’s ITC-608T. That has an 1,800 watt rating.
