In my opinion the original ITC-308 was and is a game changer as far as homebrew temp controllers.  In comparison to available controllers available at the time the ITC-308 was released, it offered loads more features, including dual stage control, for a fraction of the price.  Game changer!  The addition of Wi-Fi control and monitoring to this great controller has made a great temp controller even better.  Check out our Hands on Review of the ITC-308.  That includes a section on the WiFi version.

The Keg Land Dual Controller features dual plugs so you can control both a cooling unit and electric heater at the same time, via the separate heat and cool plugs in the bag of the unit. For example, get a chest freezer or refrigerator, and put a Brewer’s Edge Space Heater inside the refrigerator. Plug both the Space Heater and Refrigerator in the Heat and Cool plugs on the back of the control, and set the temperature for 55° F. The Keg Land Controller will turn on the refrigerator when the temperature gets warmer than 55° and then turn on the Space heater if the temperature drops below 53° or so (depending on the delay you have programmed in). Many things can be controlled: wine cellars, fermentation areas, mash temperatures, green houses, pet enclosures, and more. This 110 volt unit has a 30 amp cooling relay to handle large refrigerators, and a 10 amp heating relay to handle heating appliances up to 1100 watts.

It can also be programmed to step temperature up or down over a period of time (up to 12 separate steps). For optimum fermentation conditions using a chest freezer or refrigerator you can program the Keg King to start fermenting at one temperature, increase the temperature after a number of days and then crash chill. This is done without any intervention at all. Just program the control and forget.

You can also use this to increase the temperature of your electric mash tun so it will automatically step the temperature up and down as you please during a time period your specify.

Distillation mode is included, which means it will only heat cycle the unit once. What this means is if you set the temperature to 202° F., it will heat until it reaches 202° and then turn off, sounding an alarm to let you know the heat has been turned off. This can be handy with electric distillation and other uses when constant monitoring is not what you want to do. The probe is only 4mm in diameter, which means it will fit in the thermowell of both our items C74 KegLand Pot Still Column and C75 KegLand Reflex Still Column. Keep in mind the 1100 watt limit on the heat relay in this unit, so this cannot be used with something like a Turbo 500 Boiler that does not have power settings, although it can be used with a Mash & Boil, Grainfather, or Brewzilla that has a lower 1000 or 1100 watt setting.
Other features include an adjustable differential, adjustable delay between the start of cooling and heating, or between the start of heating and cooling, cooling start delay, Centigrade and Fahrenheit modes, and adjustable high and low temperature alarms.

Unlike the more intuitive Uni-Stat, all features are accessed through programming; see the instruction pdf below for more details. In other words, this unit is best for someone who does not mind going through a few programming menus to get set up. Includes a 6’ waterproof probe cord with stainless probe tip, and a 4’ power cord. The stainless probe fits in all the thermowells and stills we sell, and is 3.9mm in diameter.

A common question we get is how to set the Dual Controller to Fahrenheit. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. First hold the lower right set key down for about 6 seconds until it flashes E3.

2. Then press the lower right set key 9 times to get to C1

3. Then press the upper left arrow button once to change the display to 01

4. You will see 01 displaying for a few seconds and then it will return to display the temperature in Fahrenheit.

KNOWN BUG: The software for this unit has a known bug. When the unit is set to Fahrenheit, it works in Fahrenheit but a small c is displayed, like it is Centigrade mode, on the upper right part of the display. However, the setting is Fahrenheit, and the unit will stay in Fahrenheit mode even if the unit loses power. Also, in Fahrenheit, the unit can only be set to a maximum temperature of 200° F., so if you are using it for distillation mode and want the unit to shut off at say, 203° F. instead of 200° F., you will need to switch to Centigrade so you can program to 95° C which is 203° F.(in Centigrade, the unit can be set to a maxiumum of 99°).

Do you want to dispense cold beer off the grid or while camping? The Benchy Carbon from KegLand is the first beer chiller to use a revolutionary Carbon Heat Sink which means no glycol liquid coolant is required. Other similar chillers have glycol coolant that needs to be emptied before transportation to prevent spillage. The carbon heat sink makes the unit even more useful for portable keg dispensing as you have no liquids to accidently spill out when moving, and there is no need to keep filling the unit with expensive glycol coolant.

The integral Carbon Heat Sink also means the unit is quick to cool down, and it can go from room temperature to cold in under 20 minutes, much faster than a liquid filled glycol chiller. Once you are serving beer, figure on being able to serve about 1.5 gallons of cold beer per hour, pausing 2 minutes between each pint served to let the unit chill down again. Keep in mind the keg is at ambient temperature, and you are only cooling the beer you are about to serve, which saves energy versus keeping the entire keg cold.

The Benchy is dual power capable, which means you can run it off 110 volts or 12 to 24 volts DC with an optional Anderson Plug cable with alligator clips. It draws 60 watts when cooling, 1.6 watts when idling, which works out to about 15 watts per hour at an ambient temperature of 70° F. This means it can be run off a car battery or any other 12 to 24 volt DC power source with over 60 watts capacity. It can also run off a power inverter – make sure you get one rated at 500 watts or higher to power the Benchy’s cooling fan. Current draw at 12 volts DC is 8 amps, and at 24 volts DC it is 4 amps.

It features dual Nukatap Flow Control taps, and has dual 8mm EvaBarrier compatible inlets for connecting your beer line(s). It weighs 49 pounds, and includes carry handles on the top for easier tranport. 9¼” by 14″ footprint, and 19″ tall.

The centigrade only control on the back panel allows for a centigrade temperature range of -2 to 30, which works out to 28° to 86° F. Note the unit does not heat, and only cools, so you cannot set it to dispense at a temperature warmer than ambient temperature. We also recommend you do not set the temperature below 1° C, to avoid freezing beer in the machine.

The unit does make noise, about as much as a quiet inverter gas generator (69 db right in back of the unit) when the fan is on. When the fan is off, it is silent. It weighs 49 pounds, about the same as a 2000 watt inverter generator, so if are familar with inverter generators, this is about the same as far as handling and noise. Unlike a generator, however, the fan that produces the noise is not always on. All in all, a little noisy for indoor use, and ideally suited for the great outdoors.

To set the centigrade only integral temperature controller on the back:

1. Press SET and the wording SET will display

2. Press SET again and the target temperature will display

3. Now press the UP or DOWN keys to adjust to the desired centigade temperature

4. Press the SNOWFLAKE and the machine will record your setpoint and start cooling

The RAPT Bluetooth thermometer will connect to your BrewZilla Gen 4, RAPT Temperature Controller, or RAPT Fermentation Chamber and log temperature data and manipulate fermentation/brewing and distillation profiles in the RAPT Portal (https://app.rapt.io/).

This greatly reduces the need for handwritten records of your brew day as it’s all logged automatically. The RAPT portal also allows you to see every brew you have done in the past with logged temperatures from the main units probe and this bluetooth thermometer. In addition, this unit can also be setup to get push notifications to your mobile phone of when to sparge.

With the Brewzilla Gen 4, this thermometer will allow you to fully customize your brew day with profiles specifically tuned to your style of brewing or your recipe. For example, you could set up step mash profiles using the core temperature of your mash instead of the cavity below where the probe is.

Features a 7.5” probe, 40” cable, magnetized backing plate, and runs on two AAA batteries.

Note: This will not work on its own, so do not buy this unless you also have a Brewzilla Gen 4, RAPT Fermentation Chamber, or RAPT Temperature Controller.

This controller can control both a heating and cooling device.  Alternatively, it can control a heating or a cooling device.

In my opinion the original ITC-308 was and is a game changer as far as homebrew temp controllers.  In comparison to available controllers available at the time the ITC-308 was released, it offered loads more features, including dual stage control, for a fraction of the price.  Game changer!  The addition of Wi-Fi control and monitoring to this great controller has made a great temp controller even better.  Check out our Hands on Review of the ITC-308.  That includes a section on the WiFi version.
