Juno Choi’s Patagonia IPA Recipe + Free Yeast

Juno Choi BSG

Juno Choi With a PIle of Hops

One of the homebrews that stood out to me while attending the 2014 National Homebrewer’s Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan was an IPA that was served by Brewer’s Supply Group (BSG) at their booth at the Conference. It was… delicious.  Roasty, great hop character and easy to drink.  I swung by for two samples and shortly returned… for a third and it was gone.  After the conference, I got a hold of BSG to ask about the beer.  I learned that it was formulated and brewed by Juno Choi.  Juno kindly shared the recipe with me and I’d like to share it with you.  Thank you Juno!

The recipe features 100% Patagonia Malts from Chile.  Those were new to me and I think relatively new to the homebrew market here in the US, because… I had a very difficult time sourcing the grain for this recipe.  After looking around a bit, I contacted Bryan at Great Fermentations.  They already carried Patagonia, just not not all three varieties that this recipe calls for.  Bryan kindly sourced the remaining grains and has stocked them at Great Fermentations.  Thank you Bryan!

Free Yeast with “Piney the Welder” Purchase

Great Fermentations  “Piney the Welder” is their take on a very popular similarly named commercial beer…. hint, hit’s Pliny the Elder.

About Piney the Welder
“A big, West Coast Double IPA crammed with loads of aroma hops! Piney the Welder is a clone of another similarly-named “elder” beer that has been named the #1 beer in America by the AHA many times over. It gets its bitterness from hop extract, delivering a good hop bite and character that balances out the maltiness of the beer. Using a little bit of Crystal 60L and Carapils to give the beer character. A plethora of American hops give this beer big hop flavor and aroma. Three huge, very American hops contribute to this hoppiness: Centennial, Columbus and Simcoe. With a load of hops going in at the end of the boil and at dry hop time, Piney comes out like liquid hop nectar. The perfect double IPA for true hop heads!”

Available in both extract and all grain versions

Russian River Consecration Recipe Kits are… Back in Stock!

9465

More Beer teamed up with Vinnie Cilurzo to put together a recipe kit for Russian River Consecration.  The recipe is directly from Vinnie.  From what I gather, these kits are very popular.  Along those lines, at times, they can have a hard time keeping them in stock.

These kits have been out of stock for a… long time.  A long time.  All versions are available as of this posting.

A bit about the recipe… “Beer lovers rejoice! Vinnie from Russian River Brewing Co. has released his Consecration recipe to us, and we’re very proud to be able to offer it to the homebrewing community. Consecration is a sour dark ale aged in a Cabernet Sauvignon barrel. It is aged for 4 to 8 months with currants and brettanomyces. You can look for rich flavors of chocolate truffle, spice, tobacco, currants, and a bit of Cabernet.” (keep reading)

Check them out – Russian River Consecration Recipe Kits

A note on Consecration:  I’m not big on picking favorites.  I think there are far too many good things to pick favorites on most things.  Having said that, if I were going to write down a list of my favorite beers, Consecration would certainly be towards the top.  This is an amazing beer.
