MoreFlavor!® Gas Transfer Tool R657

Barrel Transfer Tool from MoreBeer

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Simply the best, safest way to transfer your barrel aged beer! Pushing your beer out of the barrel with inert gas like CO2 eliminates the possible points of oxidation or infection that could come from using a pump.

After using similar tools available on the market, we took what we liked and disliked and made our own. Obviously we’re proud of the price, but perhaps more impressive are the polished finish and the excellent quality welds.

Many brewers like to use this with an attached sight gauge. We found that it’s much easier to clean the tool when the sight gauge is detachable, so we offer it as an accessory instead of having it welded onto the wand (sight-gauge H664, clamp H652, gasket h656).

Quality Features

  • Stainless lock down mechanism to adjust height
  • Polished stainless tube
  • Compression Silicone Bung to form airtight seal with barrel
  • Adjustable lees pin
  • Made from 304 stainless steel

Specifications

  • 1.5″ Tri-Clover Outlet
  • 1/4″ Stainless Steel Ball Valve with FPT inlet for inert gas
  • 31″ height from lees pin to pictured stopper

  • MoreBeer has this on sale for $183.99.  That’s a $46 savings.
  • Get Free Shipping: Shipping is also free to most US addresses with a qualifying $59 order.

Wood, Whiskey and Wine: A History of Barrels

Wood, Whiskey and Wine: A History of Barrels

More Info

From the book description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Barrels―we rarely acknowledge their importance, but without them we would be missing out on some of the world’s finest beverages―most notably whiskies and wines―and of course for over two thousand years they’ve been used to store, transport, and age an incredibly diverse array of provisions around the globe. In this comprehensive and wide-ranging book, Henry Work tells the intriguing story of the significant and ever-evolving role wooden barrels have played during the last two millennia, revealing how the history of the barrel parallels that of technology at large.

Exploring how barrels adapted to the requirements of the world’s changing economy, Work journeys back to the barrel’s initial development, describing how the Celtic tribes of Northern Europe first crafted them in the first millennia BCE. He shows how barrels became intrinsically linked to the use of wood and ships and grew into a vital and flexible component of the shipping industry, used to transport not only wine and beer, but also nails, explosives, and even Tabasco sauce. Going beyond the shipping of goods, Work discusses the many uses of this cylindrical container and its relations―including its smaller cousin, the keg―and examines the process of aging different types of alcohol. He also looks at how barrels have survived under threat from today’s plastics, cardboards, and metals.

Offering a new way of thinking about one of the most enduring and successful products in history, Wood, Whiskey and Wine will be a must-read for everyone from technology buffs to beverage aficionados who wish to better understand that evasive depth of flavor.

Larger barrels can be good for prolific homebrewers or group brews and smaller 1 to 5 liter sizes are great if you’re wanting to give barrel aging a try without a huge amount of expense or space.
