Reader Tip: 9 Cu Ft Magic Chef Freezer [Fermentation or Kegerator] – $168 via Home Depot

Thanks to HBF Reader Mike for this tip!  [8 Ways to Connect with HBF]

9.0 cu. ft. Chest Freezer in White

9.0 cu. ft. Chest Freezer in White

  • 9.0 cu. ft. capacity provides ample storage for all your frozen food needs
  • 3 lift out, sliding storage baskets easily let you see, organize and access your frozen food items
  • Exterior electronic temperature controls are easily accessed
  • LED interior light to easily view items

You could use this to put together a freezer based kegerator/keezer (See: Tips and Gear for your Kegerator) or temperature controlled fermentation chamber.

From Mike: I bought one of the 9 cu ft Magic Chef I can personally tell you that you can fit 5 Ball Lock Kegs without a large collar (as it closes with the kegs inside) but as I am installing a 2×10 for my collar I will be able to add 7 standard ball lock kegs as the shelf has room for 2 more but requires 7.75 inches of clearance. Only installing 4 Kegs and 5 Taps initially but I think we all like the ability to expand if we decide to.

As of this posting, Home Depot has this for $168.  9 cu ft is a good size in my opinion.  I think $168 is a great deal for this.  I think that’s a good price for a 7 cu ft unit and this one is 9. Order online to reserve this great price and pickup in store to skip delivery fees. Check Home Depot for current price and availability.

We bought this chest freezer yesterday, 9.0 at Home Depo. It has blue lights to set the temperature. What setting to we use? and keep it on? What degree?

It’s so quiet and its freezing a gallon of water, in 4-hours, since we plugged it in.

    Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen! If you’re wanting to use this as a kegerator or for fermentation, you’ll need a temp controller. One is linked in this post.
