Four Easy Upgrades for Brew Day
Looking for some simple upgrades to make brew day go more smoothly? Consider these three gear purchases.
#1 – 24″ Stainless Steel Whisk. This whisk is great for: 1. Stirring in extract. It easily breaks up clumps, 2. Stirring the mash 3. Starting a whirlpool and 4. Helping chill more quickly (place in the middle of your wort chiller to agitate wort). If you’re a homebrewer, I think you should consider owning one of these babies. Hands on Review
Update International FW-24 Stainless Steel French Whip, 24-Inch
#2 – 1 Gallon Commercial Quality Pitcher. I use this pitcher on brew day and for general around-the-brewery measuring. It’s food safe 212 deg F. I use it for recirculating, topping up water, collecting wort from my mash tun, holding utensils on brew day and more. This small upgrade has made a big difference for me on brew day. This is a great pitcher. I’ve owned and used it since May of 2013. Hands on Review

#3 – Commercial Bus Tubs. I use two bus tubs on brew day and I find them invaluable. I keep one below my March Pump setup. It catches drips and also offers a place to store wet items such as stirring spoons, mash paddles, and previously mentioned mash stirring whisk and 1 gallon pitchers. I reserve the other tub for clean and dry items. Having two of these helps me keep dry/clean and wet/dirty items separate and means less lugging stuff around on brew day.

#4 – CDN DTQ450X Digital Thermometer. Having an accurate and reliable thermometer on brew day is important. Hit your temps – rehydration, mash and pitching temp. The CDN DTQ450X is a great choice. Check out my Hands on Review

Have you tried using the whisk with a cordless drill?
No I haven’t. It’s an interesting idea. You’d definitely have to modify the whisk to pull that off.
