This is a forehead thermometer and generally off topic for us.  The thing that brings it back on topic is…

Works with Surface Temps… I ordered one of these and have received it.  It DOES work for regular surface temps.  You just need to change the mode by holding both the start and power buttons at the same time.  That means it can work as a more traditional IR thermometer as well as a forehead thermometer.  I don’t know that I would suggest this as a primary use as it does not have laser targeting and it’s pricey for that purpose.  Having said that’s it’s nice to have a secondary use or as a backup to your primary Kitchen/Brewing IR thermometer.

  • Because this is brand new and available quantities are limited, the WAND has been excluded from all sales.  This flash sale is the first discount I’ve seen on the WAND.  This saves you $19, making the WAND $78.  No coupon code is necessary.  Valid while supplies last.
  • This was supposed to end yesterday, 6/3, but is still available as of this update on 6/4.  Check product page to see if this deal is still available.

  • MULTIPLE FUNCTION MEASUREMENT: ZOTO Infrared Thermometer can be rapidly and accurately measured surface temperature, environment temperature, fluorescence detection and dew point temperature with Compact size. Come with a K-thermocouple, you can use it test the interior temperature. All of these can be displayed on the LED screen.
  • SMART AND NOVETY DESIGN: Auto alerts when the measured temperature exceeds the lower/upper limit settings(The limit temperature can be set by yourself); Built-in red laser for precisely aiming. Distance Spot Ratio: 12:1; UV light which can be turned on and off independently; Auto-power off function activates after 25 seconds of none work and low battery indicator.
  • HIGH DEFINITION LCD AND ANTI-SKIDDING GRIP: Cleaner, specific and bigger data on the color LCD screen, makes it more easier to know the data at a glance.Packed by a well made leather pouch to protect, the handhold is anti-skidding design, comfortable grip and easy battery replacement.
  • WIDE RANGE APPLICATION: The temperature within the range -50℃~800℃ (-58°F~1472°F) can be measured in a safe manner without contacting with the surface, and the response time is less than 500ms. Temperature gun can be used for cooking, automobile maintenance, HVAC real estate, fire-watch, electrical engineering and more.

Since this is no touch, you can check the temp of yeast washing and yeast rehydration water and your starter wort without the risk of infection.  I find mine particularly useful for rehydrating yeast.

Infrared thermometers should not be considered a direct replacement for a conventional thermometer.  A quality IR thermometer will give you a close approximation of surface temperatures.  Note that steam seems to throw off readings.  Uses include: Contained yeast rehydration water, chilled wort or starter temperature, kegerator, fermenter or fermentation area and beer tasting samples.  If you’re looking for a great conventional thermometer consider Thermapen ONEHands on Review

Note: This is a unique unit compared to most of the IR thermometers I see.  It functions as both and IR/Non-contact thermometer and a Thermocouple K-Type Thermometer.

As of this posting, this is marked down 40% from $89 to $60.  This is billed as a very limited time sale.  If you’re interested, I’d suggest acting sooner rather than later.  Check ThermoWorks for current price and availability.

IRK-2 infrared thermometer will be your favorite professional tool for broad range temperature measurements among industry and home use. IRK-2 includes circle laser IR targeting, large LCD display, and extended temperature range.

IRK-2 Infrared Thermometer is equipped with a circle laser indicator, which allows you to better approximate your target area without the guesswork of a single laser. The 8 laser dots show you the diameter of the area being measured. As you move closer or further from the target the laser circle will change diameter. This infrared thermometer has an adjustable emissivity feature, which allows you to measure a variety of surface types. For poorly lit areas, the infrared thermometer’s backlit display can be toggled on (or off) for easy reading of surface temperatures.

IRK-2 Infrared Thermometer includes a thermocouple socket for use with any type K thermocouple probe. A two line display shows infrared and thermocouple measurements simultaneously. And, with a 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio, the Industrial Infrared Thermometer allows you to measure small target areas from further away (1 inch spot at 12 inch distance). This keeps the lens cool when measuring hot surface temperatures.

IRK-2 Infrared Thermometer’s display features include Min/Max, Diff. Mode, Avg. Mode, Hi/Low alarms, and continuous scan mode with a large main temperature display, which reads in °F or °C. It’s everything you need in a professional infrared thermometer.
