I use an infrared thermometer for no touch temp taking of yeast rehydration water. I didn't like the idea of possibly contaminating sanitized water with a thermometer, so I started using an infrared thermometer. Check out the Tips page for a full explanation.
You could also use this to make sure you've cooled your batch down to pitching temp, check the temperature of starter wort before pitching yeast and more!
Plus it has a laser sight, that's right... a laser!! This is the closest thing we, as brewers, can get to having a shark with a laser strapped to it's head! :) (Austin Powers Movie Reference)
