I have had one for almost a year now and I do like it. I’ve been posting experiences on my blog (beginbrewing.com) and sharing what I learn about it, and about brewing. I’d definitely recommend getting the Graincoat accessory. I found that my Grainfather heated water about 1.1F per minute. With the Graincoat, that jumped to about 2.1F per minute. That doesn’t sound like a big deal until you see how long it takes to heat tap water to mash temperature (think an hour or more). Also, good to have a platform under it where you can reach the thermal cut-out reset button. I tripped it a LOT in the beginning, and if I use it to do an extract beer, I’ll trip it if I’m not careful. Important, too, to notice that the (large print) mash/sparge water formulas in the manual are based on a 6-gallon batch rather than a 5-gallon one. You’ll miss your volume/gravity targets if you follow that and don’t boil longer. Anyhow, enjoy your newfound year-round brewing!
