Pin Lock users are regularly left out when it comes to parts and accessories. Point in case… I am aware of very few offerings for pin lock post o-rings (0 offerings in bulk). Most shops sell the same o-ring for both ball and pin lock posts. Pin lock post o-rings are larger than ball lock post o-rings.

This has been especially true of pin lock kegs, because new pin locks have not been coming on the market. To my knowledge no new pin lock offering was generally available to homebrewers. This has caused the price and availability of pin locks to be a serious issue. For example, MoreBeer’s Pin Lock offering has sky-rocketed to $85 per keg.

Every keg in our collection undergoes a comprehensive refurbishment process. This includes deep cleaning, machine polishing, and the replacement of o-rings on the lid, PRV, as well as liquid and gas dip tubes, in addition to two o-rings on each post. These kegs are all sourced from elite brands, including AEB, SAFER, and CORNELIUS.

Additional Information on Our Refurbished Kegs:
Though these kegs are pre-owned, they may exhibit minor cosmetic imperfections such as small dings and scratches that couldn’t be completely polished away. None of these issues impact their functionality.

After the cleaning and polishing operations, some residue might be present on either the keg’s exterior or its rubber components. While it may transfer onto your hands, this is merely a reminder that all kegs—whether new or used—need to be meticulously cleaned before usage. Proper sanitization is also crucial before filling them with any beverage.

A subset of these kegs has experienced sun damage to the rubber areas, affecting the seal. This could lead to the formation of black marks, particularly when the rubber is wet, although this is less likely when it’s dry.

Lastly, you might find some kegs with double o-rings on their posts. While this may appear out of the ordinary, rest assured they function as effectively as those with single o-rings.

Color Coded Post O-Rings in Gray and Black to Match QDs

If you’ve read Homebrew Finds for long you’ve no doubt seen Valuebrew’s Blue and Green Custom Color O-Rings in food grade silicone. These are featured in our very popular keg rebuild step by step.

Valuebrew has just introduced Gray and Black o-rings. As the picture indicates these are designed to match standard gray and black keg QDs. These have become standard colors on ball lock, pin lock (usually the bottom portion of the QD) and even Kegland QDs (center portion).

The Blue and Green are meant to be remembered by “Blue for Beer” and “Green for Gas”

All options are made from FDA rated silicone. Since they work equally well on gas and liquid posts you can also mix and match to come up with your own color coding standard.

Black Friday Deal on Bulk EPDM O-Rings – Low Permeability, Less Oxygen & Off-Flavors

Valuebrew has announced the availability of bulk EPDM o-rings for homebrewers. EPDM is a favorite of many pro brewers for certain applications. Until now, these have not been available to homebrewers, or at least easily available. EPDM has some real advantages over silicone. One of the big ones is a much lower permeability. That means they seal better and since they’re less porous they are more resistant to absorbing off-smells and off-flavors.

They are FDA Rated for food use and NSF61 certified. As of this posting, post, dip tube, lid and internal QD options are available in 10, 25 and 50 count options. Valuebrew has struggled mightily with availability and they’ve already made some indications of potential issues with new EPDM offerings. In particular, the lid o-ring description says they received a small shipment.

Precision machining with Quality Control and a LifeTime Warranty from the manufacturer assures the homebrewer that this will be the only grain mill they will ever purchase!

Features:

Rollers are adjustable at both ends to keep the gap spacing parallel giving a uniform crush along the entire length of the rollers.
The gap default setting is marked and set at .039 at assembly. Adjustment range is from .015 to .070 thousands of an inch.
The rollers have a 12 TPI knurl to efficiently pull the grain through the rollers while leaving the hull intact to form an excellent filter bed for sparging.
Comes with a solid base with locators to center the Barley Crusher on a 5 gallon plastic pail. (Pail not included)
The standard hopper holds an even 7 pounds and the optional large hopper holds 15 pounds. Using a 3/8 drillmotor at 500 RPM gives you a crush rate of 6 pounds a minute making the big grain bills fast and easy.
The Barley Crusher is shipped fully assembled. There are no adapters needed to use a 3/8 drill motor.

These work with all standard Ball Lock and Pin Lock homebrew kegs.

Ever wonder what other universal poppet o-rings are made of? Us too, after all this is one of the most high contact o-rings in you draft beer setup. We took matters into our own hands and worked with our suppliers to source a 304 Stainless Steel + Food Grade Silicone option. Stainless steel construction on all the metal parts and premium quality food grade silicone for the o-ring.

Our pledge to you… Let’s face it, the stainless pieces in most universal replacement poppets should last a long, long time. How about the o-rings? Not so much… lost, broken, cracked, off smell. This is where our pledge comes in… we’ll always carry replacement o-rings for these universal poppets. No need to guess what size replacements to buy or completely replace your universal poppets because you don’t have a reliable source for replacements.

I use universal style poppets exclusively when rebuilding kegs. Finding the right OEM specific replacement poppets can be a chore. Beyond finding the right part number, these can be prohibitively expensive. Paying $10 to $14, or more, for an OEM poppet isn’t fun. In fact, if you really had to pay that, it may not even make sense to keep the keg.

I’ve long advocated to tossing OEM o-rings immediately. You don’t know what they’re made of, and you can’t get replacements. Replacing them immediately with a known quality o-ring and known part number before trimming to fit means you’ll be using the right materials and have a source for replacements. Well… finally there’s an option that comes with quality o-rings made from the right materials out of the box! Beyond that, Valuebrew has pledged to always carry replacement o-rings, so you’ll always have a source when the time comes for replacements. A Valuebrew Exclusive! Stainless Steel Ball Lock Jumper with our Food Safe Silicone O-Rings.

Use to connect multiple Ball Lock keg lines without disassembling. This allows you to clean more quickly and easily and allows you to clean QDs along with draft lines.

Works with BOTH liquid and gas posts. This allows you to jump from liquid to gas to do things like purging a keg from top to bottom using the liquid out post.

Note that o-ring color may vary, but you’ll always receive our food grade, silicone ball lock o-rings. Most likely, you’ll receive the pictured custom blue o-rings but we may substitute if we run out of stock. For gas QD connections, we recommend only short term connections as we cannot guarantee a leak free connection. Pictured QDs are not included.

Stainless steel ball lock jumper from Valuebrew. This works with both gas and liquid QDs. That means you can jump from keg line to keg line for cleaning and also hook up to the liquid side of your keg to purge with CO2 from the top to the bottom.

These also feature Valuebrew’s Food Grade Silicone Post O-Rings. Blue are pictured, but color can vary.
