Why would these have anything to do with homebrewing, you ask?  Great question.  These are an easy way to measure 6 mL of Star San.  Put 6 mL of Star San in 1 gallon of distilled water and you’ve got sanitizing solution.  Fill up a spray bottle and you’re ready to sanitize for pennies a batch.  See: Star San Tips, Tricks and Guidelines

At 3 ml, you’d need two syringes to get to 6 mL for 1 gallon of solution.

30″ Planter Box [cleaning, sanitizing and storing longer items]

Novelty 2302, White, 30-Inch Poly-Pro Plastic Flower Box Planter

For a long time, I have used a wallpaper prep tray to help clean and sanitize longer items like racking canes, auto-siphons, spoons, tubing and beverage out dip tubes.  It works great.  These also work well for storing longer items.

One downside of those is that they are a bit on the flimsy side.  I generally recommend stacking a couple together to give them some extra strength.

These types of planter boxes are another potential option.  They are generally sturdier than wallpaper prep trays and they’re about the same length.  Since you can get away with one your total cost may end up being less.

Five Star Chemicals says that you should not soak items in Star San solution for extended periods of time. Even chemical resistant bottles are not impervious to damage caused by extended exposure to acid. Glass and stainless are exceptions. I can’t tell you an exact time frame, but personally, I’m now aiming to replace spray bottles every six months. See: Star San Tips and Tricks

I use similar mats (different model and manufacturer) and find them very handy.  I use them for drying brew day gear and glassware and also underneath my fermenter in my fermentation deep freeze to improve airflow and keep the fermenter out of any condensation that might show up).  I also use this in bottom of my kegerator.

Why would these have anything to do with homebrewing, you ask?  Great question.  These are an easy way to measure 6 mL of Star San.  Put 6 mL of Star San in 1 gallon of distilled water and you’ve got sanitizing solution.  Fill up a spray bottle and you’re ready to sanitize for pennies a batch.  See: Star San Tips, Tricks and Guidelines

At 3 ml, you’d need two syringes to get to 6 mL for 1 gallon of solution.

Regular Replacement:

I recommend regularly replacing non-glass bottles used to store acidic solutions like Star San.

Five Star Chemicals says that you should not soak items in Star San solution for extended periods of time. Even chemical resistant bottles are not impervious to damage caused by extended exposure to acid. Glass and stainless are exceptions. I can’t tell you an exact time frame, but personally, I’m now aiming to replace spray bottles every six months. See: Star San Tips and Tricks
