I have one very similar to this. I use it for a hop spider and also for final re-circulation filtering before whirlpool. It really cuts down on trub making it into the primary. I have had an obvious improvement in clarity of my beer following the addition of one of these to my brew day.
I use it as a spider through the boil. Once I’m to my last 5 minutes, I put the re-circulation return from my pump into the top of this and it starts to fill up. I have to dump out hop and trub at least once during this process. I then add finings and late hops. At flame-out, I’m hooked up to my re-circulation arm and have the copper chiller going while whirlpooling. This is raised up to allow it to empty – it can take some shakes and some effort to get it to completely drain, but not a big deal.
This is a good price. Nice addition.
