March 815 Stainless Steel Brewing Pump – $139.19 with two promos

March 815 Stainless Steel Beer Pump

March’s 815 Brewing Pump with Stainless Head via Adventures in Homebrewing

From AIH: “March Pump’s 815-SS Beer Pump.  A seal-less centrifugal magnetic drive pump ideal for home brewing. This pump is capable of generating a maximum flow of 7 gallons per minute at 4.5 feet, and its maximum head is 18.6 Feet (or around 8PSI). The standard wet end (the materials that come into contact with the solution) is composed of stainless steel, teflon, silicone and ryton/teflon/glass. The inlet connection is 1/2 inch male pipe thread, and the outlet is 1/2 inch male pipe thread.”

I use my homebrew pump for vorlaufing/recirculating, transferring from my mash tun to brew kettle, chilling with a recirculating wort chiller and transferring to my fermenter.  You could also use a brewing pump to recirculate ice water for your wort chiller.  Pumps are a necessity if you want to use a plate chiller.  You really need one to properly clean and sanitize your plate chiller.

Deal #1: Adventures in Homebrewing this on sale for $159.99.  That’s a $30 discount.

Deal #2: As of this posting, AIH’s Annual Talk Like a Pirate Sale is on.  That discounts most things by 13%.That stacking deal makes this just $139.19.  Use coupon code LOOT to get the deal.

Last Call, Ends Tonight: Buy a Mark II 12 GPM Wort Pump [12 GPM!] and Get FREE Calypso Hops

Mark II Homebrew Pump via William’s Brewing

from William’s Brewing:  “The 65 Watt MKII Pump from Keg King is a magnetic drive high temperature pump capable of pumping hot wort at temperatures of up to 248° F. It can pump up to 12 gallons per minute, making it perfect for systems too large for the 5 gallon per minute 25 Watt MK11 or the 7 gallon per minute Riptide pump. The maximum height it can pump is 17’ although gallons per minute will be reduced at higher pumping elevations.

The pump head and impeller are constructed of food grade Xarec plastic (very similar to Polysulphone). The magnetic drive acts as a clutch allowing the user to put back pressure on the pump to slow down flow. Like all magnetic drive wort pumps, it is not self priming – you must flood the pump head before turning on the pump. The pump has ¾” BSP male fittings on the inlet and outlet, which are compatible with all ¾” female NPT as well as BSP fittings. The inlet is in the center. Besides Xarec plastic, other wetted interior materials are nitrile and stainless steel.

The magnetic drive ensures no lubricated bearings are in contact with the liquid at all, so you can be sure there is no chance of any contamination of the liquid being pumped. The pump features a 6′ power cord, and a mounting plate for permanent mounting. The pump is 11” in overall length, and 4½” wide including the mounting plate. The pump head can be mounted at any angle on the pump to fit your application (an optional stainless head, William’s item X69, is also available).

Shop around and compare, other wort pumps that do 12 gallons per minute and more start at $379.99!

As of this posting, the pump with polysulfone head is selling for JUST $174.99.  A Stainless Steel upgrade is also available on the product page.  Check William’s Brewing for current price and availability.

  • Includes 8-foot cable with 3-pronged piggyback plug.
  • 15 A, 125 VAC, SPDT (wired normally open).

The S420-1501 foot switch can be used to turn on and off electrical devices with a tap of your foot. Tap the pedal once at the front (toe) end to turn it on, then tap again at the other end to turn it off. You can remove your foot and it will stay on until you turn if off (like a light switch). Ideal for lighting, power tools, office equipment, and more. This foot switch is constructed with a steel housing and a solid steel shaft for added toughness. It has a 15-amp, 125 VAC electrical rating (which is the same as the wall outlet current in the US). The 15-amp rating far exceeds the 4-amp rating of common comparable models to make it very versatile. Includes an 8-foot cable and 3-pronged piggyback plug (NEMA 5-15 series). To hook it up to your device, simply plug the pedal into your wall outlet (US only), and then plug your device into the back of that plug, and the foot switch will now be in line with the device. Enclosure rating: UL/CSA/NEMA Type 1 and IEC 60529 IP20. For indoor use in dry environments. CSA Certified and UL Listed to US and Canadian standards. Size: 4.2″ L x 3.4″ W x 1.5″ H, plus the cable. One year warranty on parts and labor. Made in the USA by The SSC Controls Company.

I use an on/off foot pedal foot switch (different model, manufacturer and specs) for hands free control of my March Pump while brewing.  One foot press turns the pump on or off. Other possible applications could be to control a keg washer or draft line cleaning pump.  Note: Always be cautious when using your pump with hot liquids and read and follow manufacturers directions.

Chugger Pump Assembly – Pump, Ball Vales & Purge Port – $149.99 + Free Shipping, Limited Supply

Chugger Pump Assembly H320A

Chugger Pump Assembly via MoreBeer.  Includes pump, ball valves and purge port.

I use my brewing pump for vorlaufing/recirculating, transferring from my mash tun to brew kettle, chilling with a recirculating wort chiller and transferring to my fermenter.

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Chugger Pump assembly, complete with fittings. Threading stainless steel onto plastic can be somewhat tricky, so we send this unit out completely assembled for you!

We mount a stainless tee and ball valve setup on the inlet. The ball valve will remain closed during standard use, however it can be extremely handy if the lines need to be primed to release an air pocket. Air pockets in your line can cause cavitation. If cavitation does occur, you can simply open the inlet priming valve, let the air escape, and close it again. Note: This pump should not and can not be run dry!

Note: When using silicone tubing, we recommending using a slighlty larger barb than the I.D. of the tubing. This is because silicone tubing tends to have greater pliability than most tubing. For example, when using 1/2″ silicone tubing, we recommend our 5/8″ barb, to help insure a better seal!

Gone are the days of making do with a general purpose pump such as the March 815 and all the variant imported copies. These pumps are cumbersome to disassemble, difficult to prime to get the wort moving, require the addition of a valve, a switch, and a proper base to hold the pump upright. They also use noisy open motors that must be shielded from liquids. All undesireable attributes for a homebrewing pump! The team of homebrewers at Blichmann Engineering and our friends at March Manufacturing have created the RipTide™ to solve all of these problems!

  • High performance curved blade impeller and strong rare earth magnets deliver 7 GPM and up to 21ft of pressure head!
  • Tri-clamp head connection fully disassembles in seconds for easy cleaning
  • 1/2″ NPT inlet and outlet connections
  • Totally enclosed motor is splash proof and super quiet (50 dB)
  • Integral linear flow valve for superior flow control – don’t spend more money for a separate valve and fittings. A separate valve and fittings can easily cost you an additional $25-35!
  • Integral air vent valve and partially enclosed impeller design allows you to prime the pump in seconds- no more frustrating air locked pumps!
  • Stainless steel head rotates 360 degrees to fit in virtually any installation
  • Large stable base with protective rubber feet keeps the pump from tipping – a $25 retail value included!
  • Convenient power switch on the base
  • Includes a 10ft long cord with plug (120V)
  • Base acts as a cord wrap for convenient storage
  • Assembled in USA from USA and imported components
  • Patent pending

RipTide™ is the last homebrew pump you’ll need!

Build a Recirculating Draft Line Cleaning Pump

recirculating draft line cleaner

The directions on most line cleaners call for recirculating the cleaner for some period of time.  Most affordable cleaning setups that are out there include a hand pump.  Operating one of those for 15 to 30 minutes, for each faucet, doesn’t sound fun.

To really clean your draft lines, you need to keep solution flowing for a length of time, not just fill and wait.  Initially I tried to clean my system by pushing line cleaner out of a keg.  This was a waste of CO2.  I also found it tough to keep solution running slowly enough to get the required amount of contact time.  It’s easy to quickly push a cleaning or sanitizing solution through your system under CO2 pressure, but I found it to be a pain to try to do so slowly.  This also requires quite a bit of cleaning solution versus a recirculating pump.

I decided to put together a recirculating draft line cleaning pump setup.
