So You Want to Start a Brewery? is the first-person account of Tony Magee’s gut-wrenching challenges and heart-warming successes in founding Lagunitas Brewing Company. In just 20 years, the company has grown from a seat-of-the-pants, one-man operation to be the fifth largest—and the fastest-growing—craft brewer in the United States. This equal part memoir, narrative, and business story is an illuminating yet hilarious account anchored strongly in time and place as a one-of-a-kind, made-in-America journey that culminates with the success of one of the nation’s most popular and enduring craft beer brands.

Business for Punks: Break All the Rules–the BrewDog Way Kindle Edition

From the book description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Forget about building a business—businesses fail and fade into oblivion. Start a revolution instead.

James Watt started a rebellion against tasteless mass market beers by founding BrewDog, now one of the world’s best-known and fastest growing craft breweries, famous for beers, bars, and crowdfunding. In this smart, funny book, he shares his story and explains how you too can tear up the rule book and start a company on your own terms. It’s an anarchic, DIY guide to entrepreneurship—and a new manifesto for business.

After spending seven years on the high seas of the North Atlantic, James Watt started BrewDog craft brewery in Scotland with his best friend, Martin Dickie. They didn’t have a business plan. All they had was a mission to revolutionize beer drinking and make other people as passionate about craft beer as they are.

They’ve succeeded. Within a few years, BrewDog was huge—a world-famous craft brewery with beer bars around the globe and hundreds of thousands of fans. Those fans became literal backers of their business with the introduction of an unprecedented crowdfunding movement, Equity for Punks. And in rewriting the record books and kickstarting a revolution—James and BrewDog inadvertently forged a whole new approach to business.

Business for Punks bottles the essence of James’s methods in an accessible, honest manifesto. Among his mantras:

· Cash is motherf*cking king. Cash is the lifeblood of your company. Monitor every penny as if your life depends on it—because it does.
· Get people to hate you. You won’t win by trying to make everyone happy, so don’t bother. Let haters fuel your fire while you focus on your hard-core fans.
· Steal and bastardize from other fields. Take inspiration freely wherever you find it— except from people in your own industry.
· Job interviews suck. They never reveal if someone will be a good employee, only how good that person is at interviews. Instead, take them for a test drive and see if they’re passionate and a good culture fit.

Business for Punks rethinks conventional business wisdom so you can go beyond the norm. It’s an anarchic, indispensable guide to thriving on your own terms.

Sell Beer! How to Start a Brewery from the Ground Up

Did you know you can make real money by making and selling your own beer? Do you have a passion for brewing new flavors of beer and want to make a living selling your refreshing drinks? Are you looking for a business that is always in demand? Consider starting a brewery!

Who doesn’t love to drink beer?

A startup brewery is not all about just brewing good beers. There’s lots of competition out there, and in reality, there will always be people who make good or even better beers. Planning is a very big part of your beer journey.

As a future business owner, you need to be on top of a lot of things. It’s not just your beer recipe and finances that you need to be worried about. – you also need to keep track of the regulations and laws of your state, the construction of your brewery, your equipment, your deliveries, etc.

You’ll need a plan.

You also need to have a pulse on what is going on in the market and your demographic. This is so you can adjust or tweak your plan accordingly. Throw your pride and your stubbornness out of the window. Sure, your first plan may seem great at first, but as you steadily work on it and start to figure things out, you will find that what you initially had in your head might not work at all. Building a good business plan needs a lot of research, foresight, and understanding of the market.

It’s a lot of work – trust me.

But for this book, I sat down with my wife and wrote down what we think will help you out.

Now, my wife and I haven’t always had the most business-savvy of minds, and when this all began, we were just a couple of wide-eyed newbies eager to follow our passions. Of course, while they always tell you to follow your dreams and reach for the stars and all that, life isn’t all sunshine and butterflies. Passion can only get you so far, and the cold, harsh truth of reality is that to succeed, you need an actual plan if you don’t want to end up miserable and broke.

Follow your passion!

With all that said, and after building my own micro beer brewery from the ground up, I’ve decided to share everything I know to make sure you, dear reader, don’t fall into the same traps I fell into when I was first starting out. This isn’t a how-to for brewing beer, mind you – you’d pretty much already have that down pat if you’re a real aficionado. Instead, what I’d like to do with this book is to show you the ropes and guide you through the business side of things, and no, you don’t really need a Business degree to make it out of this commercial world unscathed.

How do I start creating the brewery of my dreams? Here’s what you will learn in my book:

All About the Statistics and Numbers
What a Microbrewery is vs. a Craft Brewery
The (minimal) Basics of Beer Making
Creating the Business Plan
How to Conduct Market Research and Consumer Analysis
Finding a Location
Leasing or Buying the Equipment You’ll Need
Finances and Startup Costs
What to Consider with Financial Planning
Ways to Gain Funding
Legal Identity, Business Name, and Trademark Advice
How to File for a Brewer’s Notice in the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau
A Discussion of the Licenses You Will Need
Insurance Advice
Real Life Marketing Strategies
Staffing and Boosting Morale
This book isn’t a business course textbook. I want to show you from a real-world example how you can start, run, and grow a successful brewery that you can be proud of. It won’t happen overnight, but with careful planning and the help of this book, you can make it happen!

From the book description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

The Brewers Association’s Guide to Starting Your Own Brewery distills the wisdom of craft brewing veteran Dick Cantwell into one text that delivers essential industry insight. American craft brewers have always exhibited a sense of community and collegiality but the success of the industry is embodied by the production of consistently high-quality beer at community-oriented breweries. This book is an indispensable resource for aspiring brewery owners to turn that vision into reality.

At every level, brewing is about careful planning and execution of processes. The author shows that this is no different when starting a brewery. Cantwell walks the reader through initial planning, from site selection, size, staffing levels, your brewery concept, and dealing with delays, to business planning and raising capital. Regulatory and legal issues are discussed―not least a brewery’s obligations to the inland revenue service―along with strategies essential for starting and growing your operation, such as production and sales planning and brewery expansion either on site or opening new locations. The author includes several example business plans that are explored in detail, and peppers the book with his own personal and hard-won insights on everything from guerilla marketing to applying epoxy resin flooring.

Within this big picture, the author weaves in critical aspects like brand identity, marketing, quality assurance, and distribution, not to mention details like equipment options, securing ingredients, and installing flooring and drainage that will stand up to the demands of a busy brewery. Finally, once your brewery opens its doors, the process of brewing needs to continue smoothly. You need to plan and adapt your brand portfolio, operate sustainably, dispose of wastewater correctly, and package and present your product in a way that will appeal to customers. Craft breweries pride themselves on conscientious operation, maintaining the safety of their staff and operating responsibly within their community, all the while being profitable. From concept to operation, this book gets you on the right track to succeed in one of today’s most dynamic industries.
