German Style 2L Swing Top Growler – $26.99 + free ship eligible, limited availability

Fancy Widemouth Brown Swing Top Growler - 2 L GL520

German Style Swing top Growler from MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

A growler with style! Your friends will be impressed before you ever crack the lid. ‘What is a growler?’ you ask – typically it is a plain 1 gallon glass jar with a screw cap that is used to store, move and serve your draft beer. The growler is filled from the tap (we suggest filling a cold growler from the bottom with a section of 1/2″ id tubing connected to your faucet) and then transporting to friends. This is much easier than moving a whole keg, and it limits your friends consumption of your homebrew!

This ancient looking, german-styled model, is certainly the Rolls Royce of growlers. Have you ever ridden in a Rolls Royce? I haven’t, but I imagine this growler will deliver you that same type of high-roller experience without those annoyingly spendy maintenance costs.

A #10 Stopper fits in the opening.

The Top Draw Pick Up Tube – FREE with William’s Brewing Order!

Top Draw® Beer Pick Up Tube

The Top Draw Beer Pickup Tube from William’s Brewing!

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Do you want to drink the clearest beer possible from your keg as quickly as possible? The Top Draw® Beer Pick Up Tube fits any ball or pin lock keg, and replaces the rigid stainless dip tube with a stainless float pick up on a 23″ food grade silicone hose. This flexible hose holds a 1″ stainless beer pickup tube which is held 1″ below the surface of the beer by the float. As the level of the beer in the keg drops, the pick up tube remains 1″ below the surface, always drawing the clearest beer all the way until empty. The stainless float ball itself is 1.75″ in diameter.

Installs in a couple minutes – just unscrew the beer post on your ball lock keg, insert the provided short pick up tube, and attach the silicone tubing to the underside of the tube. Now dangle the hole assembly in the keg and you are done. For shorter kegs, cut the silicone tube to length.

If you carbonate by C02 injection, you can also convert your keg to one that carbonates quicker, and clears faster. To do this (Cornelius threaded post kegs only), unscrew both posts and remove both dip tubes. Then on the IN side of the keg, install the long beer pickup tube and screw on the GAS side fitting (the one with a notch on the base nut). Then on the OUT side of the keg, install the Top Draw® Dip Tube, and screw on the BEER side fitting (the one without a notch in the base nut). Now when you attach the C02 to carbonate, it will bubble up from the bottom of the keg, carbonating quicker. When you dispense, the floating dip tube will make sure you get only the clearest beer from near the surface.

The only downside to this switch is your gas line is connected to a beer dip tube, and if the pressure in your gas line drops to less than the pressure in the keg, your gas line will fill with beer. This can be prevented with a ball or pin lock check valve like our items P77 and P78, or with an in line check valve like our item D37.

Includes 22″ of tubing, 304 grade stainless float with attached pickup tube, and short replacement stainless beer dip tube with seating O ring.

My explanation of how this works…

When we carbonate a keg, pressure is being applied to the keg from the top, via the head space. Beer at the top carbonates first. That carbonation works it’s way down the keg. I’m sure there’s also some movement in the keg that helps to mix things up and distribute carbonation. But just sitting there, I think that mixing is a slow process. However it all works, practically speaking, the beer at the top carbonates more quickly compared to the beer at the bottom. This allows you to serve from the top accessing the more carbonated portion of the keg. It’s also a benefit for clarity because trub settles out heading downward. You can see this stratification in a glass carboy. As the beer starts to clear, the top clears first. I don’t think if this is exactly accurate, but I picture carbonation happening with the same sort of stratification until the beer reaches equilibrium and is equally carbonated throughout.

Kegland DuoTight Inline Secondary with Gauge! control each keg separately & more + Hands on Review

Duotight Regulator with Gauge

Duotight Regulator with Gauge via William’s Brewing

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

This 8mm Duotight compatible regulator with 0-60 PSI gauge fits 8mm outer diameter EvaBarrier tubing. Suitable for gas, all components are food grade. The included gauge is accurate to plus or minus 6 PSI.

Note: This unit comes with a 0-60 PSI gauge that is only ¾” in diameter. If you intend to use this regulator in the 10 to 30 PSI range, you will need to order optional gauge C93, which reads 0-30 PSI. Below 10 psi, this regulator is not very accurate. You will also need EvaBarrier tubing to connect this regulator, either our item number Z91 or Z92.

This is perfect for reducing the pressure of one gas line in a draft system – for example, with a single regulator and C02 bottle, you can set the pressure at the C02 bottle with the larger regulator (not included) and then put this regulator inline to reduce the pressure. Handy for when you want to carbonate one keg at 25 PSI and dispense another at 10 PSI.

The Torpedo Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube – On Sale for $14.99 + my explanation of why it works

Torpedo Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube from MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

With the Torpedo Buoy™ floating dip tube, you’ll be pouring the clearest beer possible from first pint to last! As your beer sits at low temperatures, more and more haze particles settle out to the bottom of the keg. This means the clearest beer in the keg is always at the top. The Buoy™ uses a stainless float to position the silicone dip tube just 1 inch below the surface of the beer. Kick homebrew haze to the curb and start drawing the brightest beer possible. Yeah, Buoy!

Installs on any Ball Lock or Pin Lock keg quickly and easily. Simply remove your bev out post and replace the long metal dip tube with the provided 3″ metal dip tube. Slide one end of the silicone tubing over the 3″ dip tube and the other end of the tubing over the metal tube connected to the float. The silicone tubing is sized for 5-gallon kegs, but you can cut it shorter to use on 1.5 or 2.5-gallon kegs.

Specifications:

  • 3″ Stainless Dip Tube
  • 1/4″ ID Silicone Tubing (23.5″ long)
  • Ball Float Made from 304 Stainless Steel

I’m a big proponent of the idea behind the Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube.  In fact, I’ve used a similar, but very difficult product to find, for years,  I’m super excited that MoreBeer has introduced this product.  It’s a great idea and I’m glad it’s readily available to US homebrewers!

Announcing: The Torpedo Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube!

Torpedo Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube from MoreBeer

Baseball Park Map Pint Glasses via UncommonGoods

Baseball Park Map Pint Glasses – Set of 2

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Calling a baseball stadium just a building is like calling the Louvre just a museum. A true fan’s ballpark is sacred ground, and these are a true fan”s pint glasses. Each set of two features an overhead map of an iconic MLB stadium in the team’s two main colors. When you’ve taken your last sip, you’ll see your team’s logo in the bottom. They make a fantastic gift for the baseball lover who knows diamonds are forever. Made by Brian Johnson in Pennsylvania.

These combine two of my favorite things.  The greatest team in the history of baseball is available… as well as other teams :).  These are not what I would call inexpensive, currently $38 + shipping.  They are what I would call… super cool.  Please note that product prices and availability are subject to change. Hands on Review: Brewers Hardware Quick Clean Take-Apart Ball Valves

This review is by Homebrew Finds Contributor Brad Probert.  Brad is an engineer, expert homebrewer and experienced reviewer.  Grab a link to Brad’s website at the end of this review.

Brewers Hardware Take-Apart Ball Valve

Up until now, I’ve known of two types of ball valves- 2-piece and 3-piece. The key difference between them being that the 3-piece can be disassembled for full cleaning. When I first started buying gear, I figured I’d go for the 3-piece because the idea of being able to take it apart and clean it sounded like something I should probably do. After seeing the complications of needing to use 2 wrenches at a time, while holding the body of the valve stable, I quickly concluded my 3-piece valves would never experience the joy of a ‘deep cleaning’.
