The design looks to be identical to "The Thief" by Fermtech. I've had one of those for years and use it all the time. I just wish that it didn't dribble from the tip after taking the sample. It doesn't close very tightly. I wonder if this one from MoreBeer has that same issue.
The Thief that I've seen works by covering a hole in the top. No air can get in, so the collected beer can't get out (ish). It does dribble.
The More Beer device must have a valve at the bottom that closes, otherwise you wouldn't be able to use this as a hydrometer jar as the description suggests.
The bottom part looks almost like a bottle filler. I wonder if that triggers the valve.
